Kosciusko County Commissioners honored Donald Ring, 91, as the veteran of the month Tuesday. Ring was drafted into the U.S. Army at the age of 19 and was training in Virginia as part of an amphibious unit in anticipation of an invasion of Japan when the war ended after the U.S. dropped two atomic bombs on the enemy country. He was discharged in 1946 and returned to Kosciusko County, where he farmed for about 68 years. Pictured (L-R) are the county’s Veterans Affairs officer, Rich Maron; Commissioner Bob Conley; Ring; and commissioners Ron Truex and Brad Jackson.
