Valley Track Teams Fall To NorthWoodAKRON – Cora Alber was a double winner for the Lady Vikings, and Jameson Baker won twice for the Tippecanoe Valley boys in the track and field teams’ outdoor season opener Tuesday. NorthWood, however, won both team competitions; the Panther boys won 93-30 and the girls won 75-39. Alber, a junior, won the discus with a throw of 80 feet, 2 inches, and the shot put with a distance of 28-9. Classmate Baker won the same two events in the boys’ competition, throwing the discus 127-7 throw and the shot 44-1.75. Freshman Caleigh Byrer won the 100-meter hurdles for the Lady Vikings, and sophomore Olivia Smith won the high jump. Valley also finished first in the 4x100 relay in 56.97 seconds. Payton Warner and Tahya Lybarger were second and third, respectively, behind Alber in the shot. Sarah Tucker was second in the 100 and 200, and Haley Hoover was third in the 300 hurdles. Freshman Valeria Jiminez had a third-place finish in the 400. Senior Keith Wright and sophomores Justin Peconga and Ryan Collings finished 1-2-3, respectively, in the high jump for the Valley boys. Freshman Mitch Smith and sophomore Evan Lowman finished second and third in the 3,200-meter run. Dakota Parker turned in second-place finishes in the 100 and 200 dashes. The Valley track teams aren’t scheduled to compete again until after spring break. They will open Three Rivers Conference competition with a three-way meet at North Miami and with Whitko on April 11.
