Vaccine Excuses

Posted
Editor, Times-Union:

With only 53% of Americans totally vaccinated, the war goes on between getting a vaccine or not. (I don’t want to tell you what to do, but please read the numbers below.)

First Excuse: The COVID-19 virus is no more than a cold or the flu.

“American casualties during our {Civil War} approximately 655,000” –

American Revolution 25,000, Mexican American 13,283, War of 1812 15,000, World War 1 116,516, World War 2 405,399, Korean War 36,516, Vietnam War 58,220, Gulf War 294, War in Afghanistan 2,218, Iraq War 4,497. Ten-War Total = 676,943 (some numbers are estimates).

As of the last figures I heard on COVID-19, it had taken over 800,000 American lives and is not stopping – this is not a cold or flu; it is a killer. Three times the nonvaccinated people are dying than vaccinated people.

Second Excuse: The vaccine is not 100% effective! This is true to some extent, however, no protective devices are 100% effective – NFL requires all players to wear helmets and safety pads (concussions do still happen – should the NFL abolish the helmet rule?). Military are objecting to the vaccine (should they go into combat without any safety gear?)

Third Excuse: You don’t trust the politicians or the doctors that tell me to get the vaccine. Yet you will believe and trust the politicians and news and/or social media that tell you not to get the vaccine. (Ask for their medical degree and license before you trust them).

I am not asking you to trust the doctors or politicians on TV nor am I asking you to trust me. You all have a family doctor that you chose because you trust them – ask their advice and if they tell you not to get vaccine then don’t – if they say get the vaccine, get it now!
