Editor, Times-Union:
We are approaching the midterm election cycle, and a lot of people are seeking to stir up an “anti-Trump” faction within the American voting public.
This sort of nonsense seems to happen every time we get a decent individual in the top office, as well as a fairly right- wing Congress.
For some reason, folks who voted for a change in the direction of government will, at the halfway point, change their minds and either refuse to vote at all, or they change the way they voted, period.
Other times, young people get whipped into a fevered pitch to vote, due to some of these equally young and foolish Hollywood actors, singers, even the has-beens of movies, television, music and such; and they rush to vote without thinking.
I think it is a shame to turn the tide, just as things really are beginning to get better.
I’m also fed up with some voters who continuously send the same aging, ignorant fools back to the U.S. Capitol (Senate and House).
If we are not going to enact term limits for our elected officials (and “appointed officials” as well), then we must begin to use age limits, and demand resignations of any or all officials whose health has deteriorated.
Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) has brain cancer and should do the right thing by his constituents and resign from the U.S. Senate. This is a common-sense move. Put someone new in his place.
Vermont Sen. Patrick Leahy is in his 80s. It is foolish and ignorant for someone of his age to be in any position of responsibility, especially where the welfare of the people of Vermont is concerned, or any state, for that matter.
There are many other individuals in positions of public trust and representation who are in their mid to late 70s, 80s, even 90s! That is both immoral and obscene. Some of these people are feeble-minded or physically unfit for the demands their positions require of them.
The American people need to stop playing the sap and start using their brains so that, just maybe, this nation can finally begin to get on the proper road to healing, to see economic growth, a moral turnaround, and become a true leader in the word and true beacon of light where freedom is concerned. We deserve better.
