Two political debates were announced Tuesday, including one for the Indiana State Representative District 18 seat. On Oct. 26 at the Heartland REMC building’s Touchstone Energy Center, a debate is scheduled between Republican David Wolkins, incumbent of 28 years, and Democrat challenger Dee M. Moore. The Center is at 350 Wedcor Ave., Wabash. The doors will open at 6:30 p.m., according to a news release from Moore. Debate moderator will be William Ruppel, former Republican state representative. Candidates for Indiana superintendent of public instruction will debate at noon Oct. 17 in the Classic Ballroom, Walb Student Union, on the campus of Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne, 2101 E. Coliseum Blvd., Fort Wayne. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. for priority seating and 11:45 a.m. for general admission, according to a news release from Andrew Downs, associate professor of political science, IPFW. The candidates are incumbent Glenda Ritz, Democrat, and challenger Jennifer McCormick, Republican. The debate moderators will be Indiana Public Broadcasting’s Claire McInerny and WFYI’s Eric Weddle. Anyone interested in attending the debate can either contact a campaign for priority seating or go directly to the Classic Ballroom for general admission seating, the news release states. Campaign signs and paraphernalia will not be allowed in the hall. The debate also will be broadcast in Fort Wayne at 7 p.m. Oct. 19 on WBOI 89.1 FM (online at wboi.org/#stream/0); and 7 p.m. Oct. 17, PBS 39; and in Indianapolis at 8 p.m. Oct. 17 on 90.1 WFYI Public Radio; and 7 p.m. Oct. 23 WFYI 1 Television.
