Two Former Kosciusko Residents Killed In N.C. Motorcycle Accident

MURPHY, N.C. – Charges are pending against a driver involved in an accident that killed two former Kosciusko County residents.
A car driven by Jason Craig Hart, 61, Murphy, N.C., went left on center and struck a motorcycle driven by Rex Long. Long, 54, and his passenger, Cheryl Bays, 58, were killed in the accident.
Long, formerly of Mentone, and Bays, formerly of Warsaw, had moved to Maryville, Tenn.
The couple were believed to be riding with four others from Mentone.
The accident occurred at about 2:46 p.m. Wednesday on North Carolina State Road 294.
North Carolina Highway Patrol Trooper W.J. Henning said his office is working with the district attorney in the case.
Debris from the collision struck two other motorcycles. One was driven by Mentone town Marshal Jim Eads, 48. His passenger, Tammy Eads, 49, Mentone, jumped from the motorcycle to avoid impact. Both were taken to an North Carolina hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The other motorcycle was driven by Troy Burgess, 51, Mentone. Burgess and his passenger, Penny Burgess, also were taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
