Trustee Questions

Posted
Editor, Times-Union:

Mr. Alspaugh is correct that I am two years too late in the discussion of the new fire station.

I should have been involved and instead left it to people that I believed had our best interests at heart. I'm not sure of that now because, unlike Mr. Alspaugh contends, the trustee's office does not seem to know what is in the agreement. I know, I have asked.

I suggest that Mr. Alspaugh write a concise record of what the agreement is and present it to the trustee's office, so that they are able to explain to interested citizens just what is in the agreement.

I want to make clear to anyone running for trustee that "business as usual" is now over. Regardless of whether a Republican or Democrat wins the election, I will expect answers to my questions. Even if something was decided two years ago or more.

Like why did we pay over $40,000 an acre for ground on CR 200S? There are many acres of farmland along CR 200S. Some of it right across the road from where the station is now located. Was it worth over $40,000 an acre in 2011? I wonder if someone would have donated the land and used it for a write-off? I own a lot of land in Wayne Township. I wonder if my banker will now allow me, in 2018, to value it at $40,000 an acre?

These are some of the questions I have.

I would venture a guess that my property tax bill is a little higher than Mr. Alspaugh's. Maybe that is why I have some questions I want answered. As a taxpayer, I deserve answers, not smoke and mirrors and excuses.

Just because an agreement was done two years ago doesn't mean it can't be reviewed and updated with a better agreement. Mr. Trump pushes for changes like that all the time. Is Mr. Alspaugh insinuating that we on the local level shouldn't be allowed the same opportunity?
