Triton's Sectional Win Leads Local Roundup

BREMEN — The Triton girls tennis team advanced to the semifinals of the Bremen Sectional by defeating LaVille 4-1 Wednesday night.
With the first-round win, Triton will face Plymouth today at 4:30 p.m.
Against LaVille, Triton won on all three singles courts, as Marissa Ross won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1, Jessica Babendrager was a 6-4, 6-0 victor at No. 2 and Holly Stogsdill picked up a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 3
On the doubles courts, Triton’s Carrie Slabaugh and Savannah Baker won 6-0, 6-2.

In the first-round of the Peru Sectional, the Manchester girls tennis team defeated Northfield 3-2 Wednesday. The Lady Squires take on Wabash today at 4:30 p.m. in the semifinals.

Wednesday in Syracuse
Scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh, the Wawasee baseball team overcame five errors to defeat Concord 12-11 Wednesday at home. Nate Hare went 3 for 4 in the win, which included a double and two RBIs. The Warriors ended the NLC with a 3-11 mark and sit at 6-18 overall going into their game at Lakeland Saturday.

Wednesday in Wabash
Playing a Three Rivers Conference game at Wabash Wednesday night, the Whitko baseball team fell 6-1. Whitko knotted the game at 1-1 in the top of the fifth, but gave up five in the bottom of the frame, leading to the loss. Ethan Nicodemus went 2 for 4 in the loss, driving in a run and stealing a base. The loss leaves Whitko at 17-7 overall and ends their TRC season at 4-3. The Wildcats are at Woodlan Thursday.

The Tippecanoe Valley baseball team got itself a 10-6 Three Rivers Conference win at Southwood Wednesday night. Clayton Adamson got the win for the Vikings, while James Hackworth went 3 for 3 with a home run and a stolen base. The Vikings will be at Saturday’s Jay Tournament.

The Manchester baseball team closed out its Three Rivers Conference season with a 9-4 loss at Rochester Wednesday. In defeat, Payton Sorg went 3 for 3 with a double and scored two runs. Manchester ended its TRC season at 2-5 and it sits at 6-16 overall going into Saturday’s Fort Wayne Luers Tournament.

Wednesday in Bourbon
In Northern State Conference action Wednesday in Bourbon, the New Prairie Cougars defeated the Triton Trojans 4-1. Against New Prairie’s Chase Davis, Triton got just three hits, with one being a double from Zak Shively and another being a triple by Pete Kauffman. The Trojans host Bethany Christian today.

The Manchester softball team had the Class 2A, No. 2 Rochester Lady Zebras on the ropes, but ended up losing 5-4. After scoring three runs in the top of the sixth, the Manchester Lady Squires led the Three Rivers Conference game 4-1, but Rochester responded with three in the sixth and another in the bottom of the seventh. In defeat, Kalene Freshour and Hannah Little each had two hits. Manchester hosts Oak Hill today.

The Whitko softball team claimed an 18-0, five-inning Three Rivers Conference victory Wednesday at Wabash. Karissa Olinske was the winning pitcher, going three innings and striking out eight of the 10  batters she faced. Audra Day went 4 for 5 at the plate, while Olinske had three hits and four stolen bases. The Whitko Lady Wildcats take on Heritage in the first round the Norwell Sectional Tuesday.

Wednesday in Fort Wayne
The Lakeland Christian Academy softball team won one and lost one Wednesday at Fort Wayne Wayne. LCA lost the opening game 22-12, but came back to win the second 19-7. In the Game 1 loss, LCA freshman Catie Cavell recorded an unassisted triple. The LCA Lady Cougars host Heritage Friday at Grace College’s Miller Field.
