Township Trustee History

Posted
Editor, Times-Union:

Where is the Wayne Township’s office? When are the board meetings? What kind of paperwork should I bring to the Trustee to fill out an application for assistance?

I’m glad you asked, because I too had trouble figuring out these answers when I decided to run for the office. Why? Because there’s no webpage to give you those answers. No webpage In this day and age? If you need answers you’ll have to go old-fashioned and find their phone number. Except that the office only answers the phones Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., so you’d better plan well. But what if you have an emergency on a Thursday evening like local veteran Charles Jayne’s relatives experienced as they wrote about in a Letter to the Editor from June of 2012? They were denied burial assistance because they didn’t get things approved first even though they left phone messages while the office was closed and tried their best to follow guidelines. No one, not a veteran, not the least of us, should be treated this way by the township trustee or anyone else among our elected officials. tinyurl.com/yd5zcb97

In my recent letter to the editor called “The Newest Outsider” I told you about the dusty $1,209,000 the Wayne Township trustee has sitting in the bank (learn more about how we can document this figure in Jim Falkiner’s letter entitled “Supports Benyousky”). But the problem of overtaxing (or underserving) the community clearly isn’t the only reason that I’ve chosen to get involved and run for the office. Treating people – seniors, young people, veterans, Republicans, Democrats, anyone who walks in the door – with dignity is important to our community, regardless of politics. The trustee is there to serve. This office isn’t about left or right. It’s about dignity, growth and transparency.

Therefore, my team and I promise:

• Our administration will create a website. One which makes the information more available and more useable to those who need it.

• We will open the door to everyone with dignity. This community isn’t about shaming people who need a hand up.

• We will find ways to partner with existing nonprofits, schools, police and other community organizations who are already working hard and need our resources.

• We will do the job of trustee and board to the best of our abilities and listen to those who have ideas and advice, no matter who they are.

Vote Benyousky. Vote Falkiner, Deal-Decker and Roe for advisory board members too.
