Tippecanoe Valley Tennis Sweeps LaVille In Non-Conference Play

LAKEVILLE – Tippecanoe Valley’s boys tennis team got straight-set wins at all five positions to beat LaVille in non-conference play Thursday night. The closest match came at No. 1 doubles where Dakota Parker and Seth Hoffman needed a first-set tiebreaker to win 8-7 before taking the second set 6-4. In the other four matches, the Vikings lost seven games over four sets to win handily. The Vikings will take on Triton in Bourbon on Tuesday afternoon. Thursday in Bourbon Whitko got wins at No. 3 singles and both doubles matches to earn a 3-2 win at Triton. Alex Bechtold, who joined the Whitko team this week, beat Keygan Moiser in straight sets. The Trojans’ Nicholas Rose and Tim Gensch needed three sets to win over Dalton Bailey and Chase Butler. The No. 2 doubles team of Bill Stump and Austin Holowell beat Whitko’s Brenden Damron and Aaron Stichter in straight sets. Triton’s Gavin Eads and Mace Eads got straight-set wins over Bailey Platt and Cory Hersha, respectively. Trtion will host Bethany Christian at 10 a.m. Saturday. Thursday in Plymouth Andrew Gauger was a straight-set winner for Warsaw in the Tigers’ 4-1 loss to Plymouth. Gauger lost just one game in his win. Warsaw will host Crown Point at 11 a.m. Saturday. Boys Soccer Thursday in Monroeville Heat, lightning and Heritage High School were all a bit much for Whitko in an 8-3 boys soccer loss Thursday evening. Shortly after a mandated water break in the 20th minute, the game was delayed by lightning and rain for about 90 minutes. After halftime, Whitko senior Tyler Herendeen scored the first goal for Whitko off an assist from junior Basle Trimmer. The second and third goal came from junior Yetaek Im, the fist two goals of his varsity career. The first was unassisted, the second was assisted by Trimmer. Junior goalkeeper Devin Goggin recorded 22 saves. The Wildcats hit the road Saturday for a noon match in Gas City against Mississinewa.
Thursday in Winona Lake Lakeland Christian Academy fell behind early and couldn’t slow the Argos attack in a 9-0 loss to the Dragons in a Northern Indiana Soccer Conference match. The Cougars were behind 4-0 at halftime, and kept Argos from scoring the first 20 minutes of the second half before the flood gates opened and the rout was on. LCA falls to 0-8 for the season and 0-3 in the conference and will take on Granger Christian on Thursday. Thursday in Columbia City Colin McNeeley scored three goals and Elisel Guerrero scored another goal in Manchester’s 4-1 win over Columbia City. Assists were recorded by McNeeleey, Guerrero and Nathan Self. “It was a tale of two halves,” said Squire head coach Dave McKee via fax. “(We) could not do much in the first. In the second we scored four goals and held Columbia City to one shot.” The Squires will host Rochester at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
Thursday in Huntertown Warsaw scored the last two goals of the game to take a 3-1 win over Fort Wayne Blackhawk in the Carroll Tournament. Joaquin Juarez opened the scoring with a first-half goal. Ismael Esqueda scored in the second half on an assist from Brad Ocock. Brandon Reinholt scored the third Tiger goal on a corner kick. Warsaw, now 2-5 on the year, will play again in the tournament at 11 a.m. Saturday.
Girls Soccer Thursday in Argos Wawasee was shut out by the Argos Lady Dragons 6-0. The home team scored twice in the first 10 minutes of the game. “We did not come out ready to play,” said Wawasee head coach Doug Heinisch. “We were much more competitive in the last 60 minutes and played pretty hard in the second half.” The Lady Warriors will host Goshen at 11:45 a.m. Saturday.
Volleyball Thursday in Warsaw The Warsaw Lady Tigers swept Goshen 25-9, 25-15, 25-21 at the Tiger Den Thursday night. Cassie Hoag led the Lady Tigers with five aces, 27 assists and 12 digs. Peyton Adamiec had four aces and 18 digs for Warsaw, with Lexie Day and Haley Peterson contributing eight kills each. The JV team also beat Goshen 25-17, 25-21. On Tuesday the Lady Tigers travel to Middlebury to take on Northridge. WARSAW DEF. Thursday in Bunker Hill After taking the first game, Tippecanoe Valley lost a four-set volleyball match to Maconaquah 19-25, 25-20, 25-12, 25-17 Thursday evening. Abby Betten led the Lady Vikings with 15 kills. Maddy Henninger had six assists, and Sophie Bussard had 10 digs for Valley. Tippecanoe Valley will take a 5-4 record into the Garrett Invitational tournament beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday.

Kendra Binkley had 13 kills, three aces for the Lady Squires. Cierra Carter added four aces and nine kills. The Lady Squires return to action Saturday when they travel to Logansport for a tournament. Haley Yohe had 20 assists for the Lady Wildcats, with Kaity Reed adding nine kills and four blocks. Brianna Tackett and Emily Day added four kills each, and whitney Marsh added a pair of kills and a pair of blocks. The Lady Wildcats will play in the Garrett Invitational on Saturday.
Thursday in Culver Triton won its second Hoosier North Athletic Conference volleyball match in straight sets 25-9, 25-16, 25-13 over Culver Community. Jaela Meister had 23 kills and Nichole Sechrist added 14 more for the Lady Trojans. Quinn Downing had five aces and Meister four. Downing also added a team-high 10 digs in the winning effort. Girls Golf Thursday in Fort Wayne Whitko fell 213-258 to the Canterbury girls golf team. Aurelia Slusher led the way for the Lady Wildcats, shooting a 55. Holly Hathaway carded a 58. Maria Teel from Canterbury was medalist with a 50. The team returns to Three Rivers Conference play Tuesday at Southwood.

Thursday in Marion Manchester was led by medalist Lydia Little’s 45, but fell by three shots 201-204 to Oak Hill at Arbor Trace Golf Club. “We finally broke 210 but still have a lot of work to go to be ready for the sectional,” said Manchester head coach Josh Troyer via fax. “We must continue to improve and hang in their mentally when we have a bad shot or hole.
