Tigers Lead Roundup With Strong Showing At Sectional Prelims

The Warsaw boys swim team looks primed to win its sixth-straight sectional title.
At Thursday’s prelims for the Warsaw Sectional, the host Tigers qualified for the championship heat at Saturday’s finals in all 11 events, winning six.
At Saturday’s finals, which begin at 1 p.m., the top eight qualifiers from the prelims will compete in the championship heat, while finishers nine through 16 take part in the consolation heat.
For Warsaw, sophomore Jayden Parrett won the 50 free and 100 back, while classmate Spencer Davidson finished first in the 100 fly and 100 breast.
Other first-place finishers from Warsaw were Zach Taylor (200 IM) and the 200 medley relay or Parrett, Davidson, senior Caleb Snyder and freshman Matthew Wildman.
Manchester will take part in three championship heat events Saturday, as junior Ross Messer finished third in the 100 breast and its 200 medley relay (junior Ashton Bolinger, Messer, junior Alessandro Gatto, sophomore Evan Milam) was sixth, as was the its 200 free relay (Messer, Bolinger, Gatto, Milam).
Tippecanoe Valley’s 200 free relay of junior Brandon Maull, sophomore Jonah Mikel, junior Noah Clampitt and junior Tommy Alexander will also be in a championship heat, finishing seventh at the prelims.

At the Concord Sectional prelims Thursday, the Wawasee boys swim team advanced to Saturday’s championship heat in all 11 events. In order to qualify for the championship heat at Saturday’s finals, which begin at 1 p.m., swimmers must finish in the top eight at prelims, while finishers 9 to 16 will compete in the consolation Saturday. Wawasee freshman Logan Brugh finished third in the 500 free and fifth in the 100 fly, while also anchoring the fourth-place 200 free relay with junior Caige Wahlgren, senior Corey Kenworthy and junior Luke Smith and also led the second-place 400 free relay, of senior Andrew Busse, senior Sebastian List and Hershberger.

The Lakeland Christian Academy boys basketball team lost 66-57 Thursday night in Hamlet against Oregon-Davis. LCA did get three players into double-digit scoring, led by 13 each from Chris Silveus and Billy Pitts, as well as 10 points and five blocks from Calvin Prinsen. The 6-14 Cougars wrap up their regular season Tuesday at Howe School.

At home against Huntington North Thursday night, the Wawasee gymnastics team lost 99.85-97.325. Wawasee’s Emily Allen finished with the most all-around points, placing second for her floor exercise (9.0) and on the beam (8.45), while finishing third on the uneven bars (7.6) and fifth on the vault (8.6). Wawasee’s Kim Garber finished first in floor exercise, scoring a 9.1. The Lady Warriors will be at Saturday’s Lafayette Jefferson Invitational.
