Tigers Finish 7th In Don Dicken ClassicWarsaw’s varsity boys golf team finished seventh at the Don Dicken Classic on Saturday, hosted by the Tigers at Stonehenge Golf Club.
The 14-team tournament was played in tough conditions, as golfers had to battle the cold, wind and rain.
The Tigers finished with a team score of 326, while Triton was 12th at 355 and Manchester 14th with a 399.
Purdue University-bound Andrew Lewis was the medalist with a 3-under 68, leading Westfield to the team title with its four-man score of 297.
Zionsville was second at 306, followed in the top five by Penn (307), Carmel (319) and Fort Wayne Canterbury (321).
Homestead was sixth at 322, followed by Warsaw and Avon (326), South Bend St. Joe (337), Yorktown (342), Lake Central (354), Triton (355), Rochester (376) and Manchester (399).
Sam Yeager led Warsaw with a 76, finishing in a tie for eighth individually.
Warsaw’s Luke Delp finished with an 82, Jacob LaLonde carded an 83 and Tommy Meier shot an 85. Chase Byron rounded out the Tigers’ lineup with a 93.
“The conditions were pretty tough with all three elements at work – rain, wind and cold,” said Warsaw coach Rich Haddad. “All the teams competed in the same environment on the same course, so it was challenging for everyone.
“I was proud of the guys for how hard they hung in there and it was a good learning experience as we keep improving this early in the year.”
Beau Hepler led Triton with an 84, while teammates Keegan Westafer and Isaac Wall shot 90s, Brock Watkins 91 and Chase Butler 93.
Triton hosts Mishawaka and John Glenn tonight at 5 p.m. Warsaw plays again on Thursday, hosting Homestead at Stonehenge. The Squires compete against Churubusco on Friday.
