Tigers 2nd At Track Regional; Locals Advance To State

KOKOMO – Warsaw finished second in the IHSAA boys track regional Thursday night. The Tigers’ 60 points were five fewer than Penn. Whitko was 12th, Wawasee 20th, Tippecanoe Valley 22nd and Manchester 31st in the meet at Kokomo High School.

The top three finishers in each event advanced to the state meet, which will be held at Indiana University in Bloomington on June 2.

The Tigers had one regional champion, as the 4x100 relay team of Rane Kilburn, Will McGarvey, Alijah Wade and Tristan Larsh won in 42.93 seconds. Larsh also qualified for the state meet with second-place finishes in the 100 and 200. The 4x400 relay team of Kilburn, D’Andre Street, Ridley Lemon and Wade also advanced with a second-place finish. Zeb Hernandez qualified for the state meet with a third-place finish in the 1,600.

Justin Fleming was fourth in the 800 and Kilburn was fifth in the 100 and the long jump. Kendal Miller was sixth in the 300 hurdles, Lucas Howett seventh in the 3200 and Dalton Smoker was seventh in the shot put.

Wawasee’s Luke Griner won the 800 in 1:57.51. He was also part of the Warrior 4x800 relay team, along with Sam Griner, Spencer Hare and Michael Hammer, that finished eighth.

Whitko’s Alex Wilson punched his ticket to the state meet with a third-place finish in the 200. Gavin Howard will make the trip after finishing third in the shot put.

Garrett Elder was seventh in the long jump and Conner Sherwin was seventh in the discus. Shad Ebbinghouse was eighth in the 300 hurdles, and the 4x100 relay squad of Elder, Chase Meade, Wilson and Ebbinghouse was eighth.

Tippecanoe Valley’s Dakota Parker earned a trip to the state meet with a third-place finish in the 400. Jameson Baker was fifth in the shot put.

Manchester’s Isaiah Davis was seventh in the high jump.
