The Four Freedoms

Posted
Editor, Times-Union:

As part of my series of letters on fundamental human freedoms, here are four core freedoms that often work hand-in-hand. Freedom of the media, freedom of thought and inquiry, freedom of dissent and freedom of communication. The first one is listed below.

Freedom of the media

Freedom of the media is the inalienable right of each person whether alone or with others to peacefully, openly, freely and with respect for legitimate laws and the rights and well-being of others use the various means of mass communication for the purposes of advertisement, entertainment, education, enlightenment, critical analysis, debate, information, investigation and independent forums dedicated to the diversity of thought, opinion, knowledge and creativity; and for each person to be free from having acts incorporating the mass media sector into the apparatus of the state, the silencing of independent media outlets through subjugation of closure, the formation of a state media agency for the purpose of manipulating the hearts and minds of the masses through propaganda and censorship inflicted upon them by any part of whole of any local, state, national, continental or world government or by private entities acting on behalf of such governments.
