Recently, the Indiana Education Employment Relations Board (IEERC) released the following information for every school corporation in Indiana with regards to teacher salary increases for the past year. The report shows 98% of school corporations gave raises and the average statewide raise was $2,160, average teacher salary was $55,499 and average teacher compensation was $69,448.
All four local districts increased every teacher's salary. Whitko's average raise was $5,034, Tippy Valley's was $1,906, Warsaw's was $1,584 and Wawasee's was $1,167.
The following is the average base salary and average total compensation for each district: Whitko, $48,707 and $49,221; Tippy Valley, $49,367 and $57,557; Warsaw, $48,609 and $54,397; and Wawasee, $54,278 and $67,878.
In a follow-up letter in a couple of weeks, I will report how much of the additional $763 million allocated statewide to the districts by the Legislature was given to teachers. You can then decide whether Indiana has a school funding problem or if the problem is an allocation of that funding.
