Syracuse House Fire Reported By Neighbor

SYRACUSE – Turkey Creek Fire Territory responded Friday morning to a report of a structure fire at 8 EMS D18A Lane, Syracuse.

The owner of the property is Sherwood Peters.

A neighbor at 7 EMS D18A Lane reported the fire at 6:46 a.m.

Upon arrival of the first fire personnel, smoke was visible from some of the windows and in the soffit area around the structure with no flames visible from the exterior of the structure, according to a news release from the fire territory. The caller reported to the fire crews that flames were visible inside of the structure prior to the fire department’s arrival and that an individual was possibly inside the structure.





A search of the structure revealed that there was not an individual inside and the remaining embers from a fire inside the structure were quickly extinguished. A puppy was found to have died as a result of the blaze.

Mutual aid with manpower and tankers was provided by the Milford and North Webster fire departments.

The fire resulted in an estimated $20,000 in damages to the structure and contents.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The American Red Cross assisted the occupants at the scene with temporary living arrangements.

There were no injuries to firefighters and fire crews cleared the scene at 8:30 a.m., the release states.
