Editor, Times-Union: As attorneys who practice in the Kosciusko County area, we wanted to make our choice for Kosciusko County Circuit Court Judge in the Republican primary known. Both Michael W. Reed and Stephen P. Harris are honest men of integrity, however, the choice for Kosciusko County Circuit Court Judge should be based on the qualifications and experience of the candidates. Michael W. Reed’s qualifications and experience clearly make him the best candidate.
Michael and his family have lived in the Warsaw area since 1960 and he has been an active member of the community. He has served in various church and community related activities, has been a member of the Wayne Township Advisory Board since 1987, and currently serves as a member of the Warsaw-Wayne Township Fire Territory Board. He has also served in multiple professional associations on the local and state levels.
Michael has been a public defender in Kosciusko County for more than 20 years, has tried numerous jury trials and has defended people charged with serious crimes, including murder. Michael has handled hundreds of divorce cases and was one of the first attorneys in Kosciusko County to be certified as a mediator for both domestic relations cases and civil cases. He has handled adoptions, guardianships, and probated decedent’s estates. He has handled a wide variety of civil litigation matters, including personal injury and wrongful death cases. He has handled numerous appeals in both criminal and civil matters and has argued before the Indiana Court of Appeals. He has worked with the Kosciusko County Welfare Department, worked extensively in juvenile law, and with Court Appointed Special Advocates. He has also represented multiple Kosciusko County towns, as well as the Kosciusko County Board of Zoning Appeals and the Kosciusko County Area Plan Commission.
Michael has served as Judge Pro Tempore and has practiced in all four courts currently operating in Kosciusko County and is familiar with court practice, procedures, and substantive legal issues relating to the court. Michael has worked with most local government issues, and has represented many businesses, and individuals throughout Kosciusko County. His diverse and broad range of legal experiences as well as the multiple perspectives of working for plaintiffs, defendants, businesses, individuals and governmental entities have prepared Michael to meet the challenges facing the Kosciusko County Court Judge.
Michael has the temperament, intelligent, and work ethic to be an outstanding Trial Court Judge. On May 8, 2012, we urge you to vote for Michael W. Reed, Judge, Kosciusko Circuit Court.
