Support LCS

Editor, Times-Union:

As a friend of the Lake City Skiers, I would like to share the following information with your readers. But, before I do, I would like to say "thank you" to the Times-Union for the recent article about the Lake City Ski team and their shows on Hidden Lake.

The Lake City Skiers have been blessed with great support from local businesses and the community this summer; without their contributions this 501c3 not-for-profit organization would not be able to perform in weekly shows or compete in national competitions. This particular season the expenses have exceeded the income due to increased fuel prices for boat motors, ski replacements, costumes, insurance and other necessary items not mentioned.

At this time the sound system has decided to not work as well as it should for the upcoming Division 1 Nationals tournament, which will be held in Wisconsin Aug. 9-10. Without a reliable sound system the team will not be able to compete in a professional manner. The team has received a quote for a new system and has received a nice donation to help with the purchase, but before it can make that final purchase the team needs to raise approximately $2,500 before nationals. If there is any business, organization, or individual who would be willing to contribute toward this cause, please contact Randy and Tracey Patrick or myself, Becky Thomas, at 574-858-2160.

This past month the Lake City Ski team hosted a 10-team regional that literally filled several motels and restaurants. This coming weekend, August 1-3, Hidden Lake will host the Division 2 nationals, who will host seven teams and several hundred family members. Having these events bring in several tax dollars to our local hotels/motels and restaurants. So, therefore, I feel the team is worthy of community support.

I would also like to remind readers that the team performs for local audiences on Sunday and Tuesday evenings at 6:30 p.m. And, they also do special shows for corporation picnics whenever possible. If you have time, please take your family and the lawn chairs out to Hidden Lake for a fun and exciting evening. Perhaps you or a family member will want to become a part of the ski team someday.

Thanking you in advance for your consideration.
