I am shocked by an irresponsible statement made by my supposedly conservative Republican 3rd District opponent. At a recent Silent No More meeting, Marlin Stutzman was asked, "What are you going to do about the illegal aliens?"

After shuffling a bit, he answered, "We need to teach them English and then tax them."

I was flabbergasted both by his answer, and by the fact that it brought so little response. In passing, he had also mentioned being raised as a Mennonite. Hmmm.

After doing some research, I found that Mennonites have been very busy transferring third- and fourth-world invaders into America, directing most of them into working class and farming communities throughout the Heartland. Here they have become real threats to declining job markets, a drain on services, and are responsible for deadly increases in local and regional crime.

Now why would Mennonites want to add to our already growing list of problems? At the Mennonite Church U.S.A. website, I was shocked to read this official church policy on immigration: "We reject our country's mistreatment of immigrants, repent of our silence, and commit ourselves to act with and on behalf of our immigrant brothers and sisters ... regardless of their legal status."

Mistreatment of immigrants? Millions have flocked to these shores through little or no law enforcement, and are given better public support than jobless citizens, not to mention our homeless veterans.

Mr. Stutzman, do you endorse this policy? Inquiring minds would like to know.
