Still A Democrat

Editor, Times-Union:

I see in your letters section that the Democratic Party chairman is taking issue with my calling myself “an old-school Democrat” in a letter in support of Chad Miner. I suppose the young man doesn’t know about the more than 20 years I spent as the Democrat member of the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Merit Board and as a Democrat while serving as an officer of the State Police. I have always considered myself a Democrat. You can just ask my friends and neighbors. Also, my folks and my relations when I was growing up were Democrats.

Yes, it’s true that I have voted in Republican primaries, especially when I have a friend on the ballot. Many Democrats do that. In fact, Chad’s Democrat opponent spent the first half of the year advocating for a candidate in the Republican judge primary. There’s just usually not much going on on the Democrat side of things.

I’m disappointed that the Times-Union chose to censor my opinion from their website at the request of a partisan political operative.
