ROCHESTER - Stanley Samuelson, 92, died Feb. 13, 2011, in Wynnfield Crossing, Rochester.

He was born June 12, 1918, to Oscar and Kittie Karr Samuelson. On Oct. 15, 1940, he married Anita Zimmerman, who died in 1995.

He moved to Rochester from Iroquois County, Ill., after graduation to work at the Armour Creamery, which was then managed by his brother-in-law.

He was drafted by the U.S. Navy in May 1944 and served in the Pacific theater during World War II on the USS LST 867. When he returned home from the war in May 1946, he started his career with the Nickle Plate Railroad until his retirement. In his early years he enjoyed coaching Little League Baseball. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.

Surviving are a son, Phil Samuelson; two daughters, Joyce Sroufe and Judith Overmyer; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Jean Wilkinson and Frances Haines. He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.

Services will be at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Good Family Funeral Home, Rochester, with the Rev. Maurice Grindle officiating. Burial will be in the Rochester IOOF Cemetery with graveside military rites by members of the LeRoy Shelton American Legion 36 and Veterans of Foreign Wars 1343, both in Rochester.

Calling is from 6 to 8 p.m. today and one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the funeral home.
