Speeding, Cops, Greed

Posted
Editor, Times-Union:

When I was in my teenage years, and before there was a 30 bypass, Center Street was highly used national highway for cars and trucks. We had a justice of the peace who handed out speed trap justice on a very regular basis. It was so bad that the stop lights were rigged to even further help downtown business. Finally, as I recall, the state had to step in to set the lights straight.

Well, that was the '50s, but alas you can't keep a sweet deal down. The 30 bypass at times looks like Christmas on Times Square from all the traffic stops. Oh my! 45 MPH. Talk about saving oil? Not while the ghost of the old justice of the peace, buddy, is still around.

I see an 81-year-old lady that is in a wheelchair is charged in St. Joe County with defending herself from an overzealous cop with her cane. In the court, the cop said "he was scared." If you live in that area, call the Boy Scouts, not 911.

I see the national sport of greed has raised its ugly head in Warsaw. It appears two top execs of Biomet found it impossible to make ends meet at an alleged $29,000 and $41,000 a month. This while hundreds of Warsaw area workers have lost jobs to Mexico and Asia with no end in site. We better meet at the local watering hole and take up a collection for these two deprived capitalists.
