Hypocrisy (hi-pak-ra-se): A pretender to virtue or piety; a deceiver.
Let me count the ways how many of our great sports heroes have fallen prey to the almighty dollar. I admire their athletic abilities, but they are hardly a profile of courage.
They kneel and disrespect our national anthem and our flag for some cause called social justice, whatever that’s supposed to mean. It is meant to be vague, so they can use it to protect their inability to defend their social status against all those less fortunate than they are. They are icons because of their athletic prowess, but instead of keeping to what they do best, they try their hand at telling us what is right and what is wrong. They are silent when it comes to their oblivious concern for the people of China, yet they do not hesitate criticizing the country which provided the foundation for their fame and fortune.
They become some kind of philosopher once they get a following on Facebook, but they won’t tell you about the millions they make from Nike. This is one of the 83 major international corporations that do business with China. A country which has arrested and imprisoned over 1,000,000 Uyghurs (Chinese Muslims) to re-education camps, where they end up making sportswear for Nike for nothing ... not a bad profit margin.
So the next time one of these multimillionaire athletes try to convince you that this country is so bad and we have no “social justice,” remind them of the people making their footwear, slaves, whose efforts eventually fill the pockets of these social warriors with cash; so much for social justice, who’s paying attention anyway.
