SILVER LAKE – Vehicles owned by Ryan Orlacchio and located at 106 Elm St., Silver Lake, were the subject of discussion at Wednesday’s town council meeting. A neighbor of Orlacchio addressed the council on his behalf in order to inquire about how best to comply with a town ordinance regarding non-operational vehicles on his property, at least three of which have either no engine or no transmission. Orlacchio was traveling and unable to attend the meeting. Orlacchio had spoken with Lowe's about putting up a privacy fence, but the proposed 3-foot fence would not block the public's view of the vehicles and a 6-foot fence at the location would most likely not be approved because of traffic safety concerns. Barring compliance with the ordinance, established in 1989, the town will continue action to alleviate the situation. The council unanimously approved the purchase of four Chromebooks to be used by the three council members and one administration person. Each device costs $179 and is not taxed because Silver Lake is a municipality. The price of $179 will be guaranteed through the first quarter of 2017 in case the town needs to buy additional devices. The Chromebooks will lower man-hour costs and paper usage and allow information at public meetings to be projected for citizens to view. A year-end public meeting will be at 5 p.m. Dec. 27.
