Silver Lake Council OKs Funds For Archaeology Study

Posted
SILVER LAKE – The Silver Lake Town Council Wednesday unanimously approved the funds for an archaeology study to be conducted prior to beginning the town's storm sewer project.
The study is made to ensure that no Indians or Indian artifacts are buried in the areas where the construction is to take place. The cost of the study is $900, which is considerably less than the original quote of $1,300.
In new business, Skip Mumford put forth the idea of creating an armed forces monument representing Lake Township veterans to be placed at Memory Park in Silver Lake.
Clerk-Treasurer Tonya Conley stated that she had a discounted quote from Patton Monument ranging from $2,160 to $2,400 depending on final requirements for the memorial. Mumford and the council will work together to determine the details of the monument's look and cost.
In response to a citizen question regarding the vehicles owned by Ryan Orlacchio, 106 Elm St., Town Marshal Craig Hollopeter told the council that a letter was sent to Orlacchio at the beginning of the year and he now has 30 days to come into compliance with the town's ordinance.
The council approved a request by Fire Department Chief John Conley to do painting at the department. Conley will obtain estimates for paint and supplies for 16,000 square feet of space and 11 doors.
Funds were OK’d for fire department personnel to attend the Fire Department Instructor Conference in Indianapolis in April. The cost for each member attending is $40.
A meeting regarding the town's sewer construction grant will be at 7 p.m. Feb. 8.
