Silver Lake Approves Street and Utility Quotes

Posted

SILVER LAKE – At Wednesday night's meeting, the Silver Lake Town Council approved four quotes totaling $23,744.50 for the streets and utilities. The quotes included a replacement mower, normal generator service, pothole repair and sidewalk work.
Ahead of the regular meeting, the council held public hearings for the 2027 budget, the Rockwell property vacation and the Fugate property determination.
Council discussed the 2027 budget, which Clerk-Treasurer Tonya Conley presented. Conley said the budget is an estimate and the town does not usually spend over 85% of what is budgeted.
The budget is larger than usual due to the community center project as the town has received $1,000,918.54 in grant funding and $750,950 in donations, Conley said.
Attorney Rama Sobhani, representing the Rockwells, presented the petition to vacate a 0.08-acre tract of land on the Rockwells' property. Council approved the vacation.
In the final public hearing, the council determined corrective action had been taken for the Fugate property at 208 E. Main St.
There was no public comment during the hearings.
During the regular meeting, the council heard a community center update from Jim Hoch of Hoch Associates. Hoch presented a change order for additional topsoil for $39,476.58 which the council approved.
Hoch said the additional topsoil was necessary to raise the ground for the building pad, which will be completed Oct. 27. Hoch said the foundation is coming Nov. 5 and the steel erection will be Dec. 14.
Council also approved the second claim for the community center project totaling $190,659.79.
In other business, council:
• Voted to reschedule the Nov. 11 meeting to Nov. 12 due to Veteran's Day.
• Approved seeking farm lease and trash bids, to be opened at the Dec. meeting.
The next regular Council meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12.
