Signs

Editor, Times-Union:
A huge thank you for the column from Gary Gerard this weekend regarding the ridiculous sign ordinances here in our community. He hit the nail on the head. He spoke right in line to what I am about to say.

When you think of Big Government, you think of your U.S. Congressmen and Senators, or even the Indiana Statehouse, right? We all keep our finger on the pulse of what is happening with those men and women. Well, what you are about to read is coming from right in your own back yard, in fact, they might even be one of your neighbors across the street!

This Tuesday, June 19, at 7 p.m., Kosciusko Silent NO More will be hosting a special meeting to alert you to a new local issue here in Warsaw that will affect the free market principles that we have enjoyed for centuries, and has made our community so great. Let me give you a sneak peak and set the stage for you. This will be held at New Life Christian Church.

What do politicians in Warsaw do when they have too much time on their hands? You guessed it. They sit and dream up more laws and more regulations.

In this horrible economic time we are living in, It would seem that the thing to do would be to promote free market principles and promote our wonderful local businesses, right? Well, our politicians and committees here seem to think the economy is fine and dandy, and they need to do their part in punishing the free marketplace here in Warsaw.

Here is an example of a new regulation they want to include in their proposal. Right now, the worst crime you can think of is taking place in front of a local business on Winona Avenue. In fact, you might see it tomorrow on your way home from work! Picture this: You are driving home one evening, your stomach is starting to growl a little louder, and you think to yourself, “What should I have for dinner tonight?”
Then you see HER.

The evil little Caesars girl standing on the sidewalk in front of you, bouncing a $5 pizza sign. She reminds you of the bear in your stomach growling away ... Do you pull in to buy some pizza? Not a few months from now ... she will be GONE. It will be illegal for her to bounce along Winona Avenue with her $5 pizza sign? It makes me wonder what will happen to the youth groups holding their signs alerting you to their car wash? Will those be gone, too?

Do you know majority of the signage in Warsaw is currently illegal? Our current sign regulations are horrific. Our politicians know that it is impossible to police all of these regulations, so instead of hitting the delete button, they create MORE and add more confusion!

Seriously, I want to know who is behind the regulatory crew here in Warsaw? I want to know whose brainchild that sits up at night to think of these things that hinder our freedoms and our free market principles? Well, ladies and gentlemen, we are about to find out. There will be an upcoming vote in July, and you bet we will be there to find out who has voted for these regulations.

But first, come out Tuesday to hear more about this new sign war that is underway in Warsaw. It is important to know that we have a new team of councilmen and women who will soon be hit with this proposal. When the time comes, it will be critical for us to be at these meetings and let them know that we support the free market principles that have made it such a wonderful community to live in!
