Editor, Times-Union:
Are you sick of the “shutdown” brought on by the cancerous growth of the Administrative State and the resultant tyranny of the general government? Be assured, there is a “cure”: The Constitution Solution. The prescription for this budgetary plague is called “The CAST Act” (Commission on Agency Sunset and Transition). It is based on the concepts of the Texas Sunset Advisory Commission.
There are only three branches and seven departments that can claim a justification from the Constitution: Legislative, Executive, Judicial, State, War, Treasury, Justice, Transportation, Interior and Commerce. All other powers are reserved to the states and to the people.
Attachment of The CAST Act to this CR, and to every future Act, Bill or Resolution of the Congress would enable the various factions to support the measure and end the current impasse. As with the administration of cancer therapy, the metastatic deposits of usurped powers not delegated will crumble away, allowing the Constitution of the ratifiers to thrive, and the states to assume their rightful roles in a true federalist model.
As always, the devil is in the details. However, there must now be decisive action, lest we fulfill Benjamin Franklin’s prophecy of descent into a “frightful despotism.”
