ARGOS – Despite their shooting woes, the Tippecanoe Valley Vikings had a chance to score their first win of the season, also the first win of new head coach Chad Patrick’s career, Tuesday night.
In a 25-23 loss at Argos, the Vikings made 9 of 32 field goal attempts overall (28 percent) and were just 2 of 18 from three-point range.
Still, Valley was very much in the game, leading 9-6 after one quarter of play, and only trailing 15-13 at halftime and 20-15 at the end of the third quarter.
The Vikings outscored Argos 8-5 in the final frame as their comeback bid fell short.
The host Dragons turned the ball over 19 times and made just 5 of 14 free throw attempts, but overcame that by shooting 50 percent from the field in the win.
The Vikings, who had just eight turnovers, only scored nine points off Argos’ miscues and were outrebounded 25-12.
Sophomore Tanner Trippiedi led Valley in scoring with eight points, while senior Dakota Parker – the team’s only senior – chipped in with seven points.
Juniors Wes Melanson, Parkur Dalrymple, Alex Morrison and Cam Parker scored two points each in the loss.
For Argos, junior Diego Elejabeitia scored a game-high nine points, while classmate Ian Kindig finished with seven points and six rebounds.
Argos is now 2-0 on the season and travels to Lakeland Christian Academy Friday.
