Shirley Mai Yoes Sprong

Posted
On March 24, 2018, God called Shirley Mai Yoes Sprong home to live in his kingdom, having served him for nearly 85 years here on Earth.

Mrs. Sprong, formerly of Warsaw, was a committed Christian, a dedicated wife, and a loving mother who saw and shared beauty in all God’s creations.

She was born April 4, 1932, in Nashville, Tenn., to the late John Leland and Goldie Mai Yoes. Anytime the sun was shining and many times when it was not, you could find her out in the garden pulling, planting, weeding and marveling at the colors of the many flowers and bushes she had planted while enjoying a visit from the occasional bird or squirrel.

She had a lifelong love of music, particularly singing, and was a regular member of various church choirs and the Sweet Adelines Show Chorus in South Bend.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband of 31 years, Ralph Sprong; a son, John Dwight Carter; and grandson, John Nathan Carter.

She is survived by four sons, Steven Lance (Laurie) Carter, Crawfordsville; Joseph Eric (Beth) Carter, Tallahassee, Fla.; Jeffrey Franklin (Phyllis) Carter, LaPorte; and Brent (Cindy) Carter, Warrenton, Va; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
