Editor, Times-Union: This letter is to put forth some facts about Carl Sowers and his abilities to serve on our city council. I have worked with Carl on many projects over the last several years, ranging from Cub Scouts to community fundraising events such as the Harlem Globetrotters coming to town. It is in no small measure that Carl is partly responsible for the great success of Scouting in Warsaw. It is also Carl who has had the energy, the vision and the commitment to bring the Globetrotters to town. For this I personally thank him because it has brought many smiles to kids’ faces, taught many kids new skills and has instilled qualities in kids through Scouts that will forever serve them throughout life, and two of those kids were mine; one of which is an Eagle Scout and serving in our armed forces. Carl has everything to give and he has the support of his family. It doesn’t get much better than that. I am writing this letter to inform the general public that I think Carl Sowers would be a great asset to the council. He has energy, he is committed to all things, and his is the most tenacious person I know when it comes to getting something he believes in. It is for these reasons and more, that I think he would be an excellent public servant for this city. I have always been able to count on Carl when budgets were tight, or when we needed resources and fundraising ideas to send kids to Dick McCleary’s very fine Scout day camp. When we needed to think outside the box, Carl was always the first one to start throwing ideas out at everyone, and eventually one of them always stuck. So, Carl Sowers never let down the Scouts, and he has always been actively involved in the community. I think he more than deserves to have the entitlement of city councilman, and not only that, but the public deserves someone like Carl Sowers who is not afraid to think outside of the box, and is seemingly un-tired of chasing down an idea and a resolution to a problem I don’t think we can lose with someone like Carl. In fact, I strongly believe we have everything to gain. Dave Hurt Warsaw
