Editor, Times-Union: On Election Day there is one race which has an incredible contrast in the candidates. This is the Secretary of State contest. This office is in charge of the election process for the State of Indiana. The incumbent is Republican Connie Lawson and her opponent is Democrat Beth White. At the county level the Clerk of the Courts is responsible for local elections. As a former county clerk, Connie Lawson was given the award of outstanding Clerk of the State of Indiana. The Democrat candidate is currently the clerk of Marion County. She also has an amazing record. The first election she was responsible for overseeing was the Municipal Primary Election for Indianapolis in 2011. That election was arguably the biggest election fiasco in the history of the state. Literally thousands of votes were disenfranchised. Because of lack of workers, many precincts opened late and several never opened at all. Thousands of voters were never allowed to vote. This Democrat candidate now wants to be responsible for statewide elections. This information should be given some thought before voting in this election. That election story was the headlines in the Indianapolis Star May 4, 2011. Dale Stickel Elkhart, via email
