Former Tippecanoe Valley girls basketball standout Anne Secrest is coming home, or at least close to it.
The four-time Times-Union Area Player of the Year confirmed via her Twitter account Tuesday night that she is transferring from NCAA Division I Youngstown State University to Indiana Wesleyan University.
IWU, located in Marion, is an NAIA DII school and a member of the Crossroads League, a 10-team conference that also includes the likes of Grace College, Bethel College, Huntington University and University of St. Francis.
“So thankful for a great year and opportunity given to me at YSU, however sometimes God calls you in a different direction and you have to follow your heart. Excited to be a Wildcat,” Secrest tweeted.
As a freshman, Secrest played in all 32 games for the Penguins, averaging two points and 11 minutes per game. She made 17 starts for YSU, which finished 16-16 overall and 11-7 in the Horizon League.
She graduated from Valley in 2017 as the program’s all-time leading scorer with 1,580 points. She led Valley to an 85-17 record as a four-year starter.
At IWU she will join former Valley teammate Meredith Brouyette and former Warsaw standout Dayton Groninger.
IWU was 25-9 overall and 15-3 in league play this season.
