SYRACUSE - Ruth E. Mench, 90, of Syracuse, died at 1:17 a.m. Aug. 11, 2009, in Goshen General Hospital.
She was born Oct. 14, 1918, in New Paris, to John and Cecil Strycker Knisley. On June 8, 1940, in Goshen, she married James M. Mench, who died in 2003.
A lifetime Elkhart/Kosciusko county area resident, she moved to Syracuse in 1940. She attended New Paris High School and was a homemaker and a former member of the Bunco Club, Syracuse.
Surviving are four sons, Dennis and James Mench, both of Syracuse; Tom Mench, Livingston, Mont.; and Jeffrey Mench; Warsaw; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister Mary (and spouse Robert) Byrd, Syracuse; and three brothers, Kenneth (and spouse Catherine) Knisley, Syracuse; Glen (and spouse Mary Ann) Knisley, Leesburg; and Donald (and spouse June) Knisley, New Paris. She was preceded in death by an infant sister and four brothers.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Owen Family Funeral Home, Syracuse.
