Roundup Led By Valley's Home Win Over Manchester On Diamond

AKRON — Tippecanoe Valley junior pitcher Tanner Andrews got his first win of the season Monday, as the Vikings knocked off Manchester.
Playing at home, Andrews went 4-1/3 innings, striking out seven, while allowing five hits and one run, as Valley won the Three Rivers Conference game 9-1.
At the plate, Andrews went 1 for 3 with a double and two runs.
Valley’s top offensive players were Clayton Adamson and Eric Hammer, who each had two hits and two RBIs.
For Manchester, Phoenix Goad posted two hits, while Jim Sainsbury was hit with the loss, despite giving up just one earned run as the Squires defense committed seven errors.
Both squads are back in Three Rivers Conference action Wednesday, as Valley hosts Southwood and Manchester welcomes in Rochester.

Playing at Goshen’s Black Squirrel Golf Course, the Lakeland Christian Academy boys golf team defeated Bethany Christian 183-242. LCA’s Ross Wallen and Chris Maron each shot a 45, helping LCA improve its record to 3-2.

Monday in Akron
The Manchester softball team didn’t give the host Tippecanoe Valley Lady Vikings much a chance in a 17-5, five-inning victory Monday. Already in front 5-0, the Lady Squires plated 12 runs in the fifth inning. Manchester’s Kalene Freshour was 3 for 3 with two triples, while Nina Smith, Mariah Mobley and Claire McLaughlin each had three RBIs. In the loss, Valley’s Lauren Early had two RBIs. Both teams are in TRC action Wednesday, as Valley hosts Southwood and Rochester is at Manchester.

Monday in Bremen
Playing 11 innings, the Bremen softball team plated a game-winning run to take the 5-4 Northern State Conference victory. In a battle of pitchers, Bremen Chelsea Huppert, who no-hit Triton earlier this season, struck out 19 Lady Trojans and Triton’s Mallorie Jennings had 18 strikeouts of her own. Jennings also led Triton with four hits and Krystal Sellers posted three. The loss drops Triton to 12-6 overall and 6-4 in the NSC. Next up for Triton is a game today at Wawasee.

In their final regular season match of the year, the Warsaw girls tennis team lost 4-1 at Goshen Monday. In the Northern Lakes Conference loss, which dropped Warsaw to 1-6 in the conference, the Lady Tigers only win was at No. 3 singles, where Lindsay Sciarra won 6-1, 6-3. The 1-10 Lady Tigers will now get ready for the NLC Championships, with the first round being Thursday at Plymouth.

In a three-team, Three Rivers Conference meet in South Whitley Monday, the Whitko boys track and field team scored 83 points, while Tippecanoe Valley had 55 and North Miami finished with 28. For Whitko, Connor Stouder won the 100 (11.1) and 200 (22.4) and Tyler Sherwin was first in the 300 hurdles (44.1) and discus (120-7). For Valley, Derrick Cunningham was first in the high jump (5-10) and second in the long jump (19-3), while teammate Nolan Sponseller won the 400 (52.3) and was second to Stouder in the 200 (23.8). The teams will now get ready for Thursday’s TRC Meet at Southwood.

Taking part in Monday’s Elkhart Christian Academy Invitational at Goshen College, the Lakeland Christian Academy girls track and field team scored 37 points. With their score, LCA defeated Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian (28), but fell to ECA (97). LCA’s Hailey Nieveen won the 100 hurdles (17.0) and 300 hurdles (51.8), while Emilee Catron took first in the 400 (1:07.3). LCA will be at Fort Wayne Canterbury Thursday.
