MILFORD – Ronald Fredrick Hoskins, 70, of Tustin, Calif., died Feb. 17, 2012, in his residence, surrounded by family.
He was born Nov. 11, 1941, in Noblesville, to Harold F. and Alta Marie Ehman Hoskins. In September 1962, he married Sonya Schramm, who survives in Syracuse. In April 1994, he married Betty Lou Hays, who survives.
He grew up in Carmel and Argos and graduated from Argos High School. He graduated from Ball State University in June 1963. At Ball State, he was a member of the Ball State Concert Choir and Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. Following graduation, he resided in Warsaw, where he raised his children with his first wife. He owned and managed Woodie’s Supermarket, Warsaw. While residing in Warsaw, he was a member of the Warsaw Jaycee’s, Rotary Club and Winona Lake Lion’s Club. He was also an avid follower of Hoosier basketball.
Following his second marriage, he moved to California where he began a second career as a school teacher and lived for the remainder of his life. There he enjoyed working in his yard until his health would no longer allow.
Also surviving from his first marriage are three children: Melinda Hoskins, Syracuse; Kyle (and spouse Patti) Hoskins, South Bend; and Kara (and spouse Michael) Henderson, Deer Park, Ill.; and four grandchildren; and from his second marriage, two children, Linda Eggers, Huntington Beach, Calif., and Edgar (and spouse Judy) Ellsworth, Chino Hills, Calif.; and four grandchildren; and two siblings Phil (and spouse Sandy) Hoskins, Olathe, Kan., and Ruth Akers, Elkhart. He was preceded in death by his parents and an adult child of his second marriage, Matthew Ellsworth.
A memorial service is being planned later this spring at Mishler Funeral Home, Milford, so friends and family may remember Ron.
