Editor, Times-Union:
As we draw closer to the May 8 primary elections, our prime interest is in the local Kosciusko County sheriff's race. As we consider the candidates for this office, we are drawn to their past experience and performance in public office with a proven track record of service and accomplishment.
In our consideration, the one candidate that stands out above others is our current sheriff, Rocky Goshert.
Rocky was born and raised in our county. He can quickly find his way to all areas of our county in times of emergency. True, today with the technology available we all look to this means as helpful, but knowing innately the county, as Rocky does, this gives him a quick start and heads-up in arriving on the scene quickly to provide assistance.
Rocky has some 38 years of law enforcement experience, retiring with 21 years as an Indiana state trooper and with 17 years in the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department, the office for which he is seeking to continue his public service. He has been the sheriff and is fulfilling the role of the leader in a commander's role. Can the other candidates say this relative to their law enforcement experience in a commander's leadership role?
When it comes to public service, with Rocky's family background of a father being a longtime highly successful teacher, football coach and business director, we are drawn to Rocky's years of experience working with our youth in his coaching of boys and girls teams in the Wawasee and Warsaw school systems. Be assured Rocky teaches athletics as a means to more importantly building a foundation for character in our school-age youngsters. In today's society we think all will agree how important character is and how it tells you about the man who is leading: the coach, Rocky Goshert!
Also, we are impressed at Rocky's help and assistance that he has given and continues to give to our elderly population over the years. Many of our elderly population do not express this publicly due to their age, but they do let you know personally the assistance he has given to them. Rocky doesn't know a stranger.
In summary, Rocky stands tallest among our sheriff candidates on the ballot and we trust you, the voters, will closely review all of the candidates and give Rocky your vote.
