Robert W. Longenecker, 60, of Mishawaka, passed away at 11:13 a.m. Feb. 16, 2013, in his residence. He was born Nov. 5, 1952, in Warsaw, to John W. and Pattie Lynch Longenecker. He graduated from Warsaw Community High School in 1971, where he was in track, football, basketball and sang in the choir. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving from 1978-82 and his MOS was nuclear weapons electronics maintenance. He was very proud and honored to serve his country. A South Bend area resident since 1982, he was an engineer for Solvay Automotive, South Bend. He was a member of South Bend American Legion Post and the Calvert Rod and Gun Club, South Bend. Besides having a hardy sense of humor, he enjoyed fishing, camping, golfing, sprint car racing and college football and loved to barbecue. Surviving are his mother, Pattie Longenecker, Warsaw; two daughters, Jessica L. Longenecker, Mishawaka, and Carly K. Longenecker, Culver; a son, Adam R. Longenecker, Plymouth; two grandchildren, Caleb and Regan; two brothers, Michael (and spouse Peggy) Longenecker, Warsaw, and John P. (and spouse Angie) Longenecker, San Diego, Calif.; and his companion, Carol Moore, Osceola. He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents. A private graveside service and burial with military honors will be at a later date in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
