DENVER, Ind. - Robert A. Powell, 88, formerly of Peru, died at 10 a.m. Aug. 17, 2008, in Grace Village, Winona Lake.
He was born Aug. 3, 1920, in Logansport, to Charles Arthur and Goldie Marie Knight Powell. On June 16, 1943, in Denver, Ind., he married Mary L. Behny, who survives.
He was a member of Church of God; Peru-Miami Masonic Lodge 67 F&AM, where he served as past master; 32nd Degree Mason; Scottish Rite, Fort Wayne; Murat Shrine, Indianapolis; The York Rite; Logansport Shrine Club; Peru Moose Lodge; and Veterans of Foreign Wars, Peru; and a lifetime member of Peru Elks, Peru Maennerchor and American Legion. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Asiatic Pacific during World War II.
Also surviving are a son, Monte (and spouse Kim) Powell, Warsaw; two grandsons; and three great-grandsons. He was preceded in death four brothers and a sister.
A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Westlawn Cemetery, Denver, with Chaplain Steve Fleck officiating and with military graveside rites by members of Miami County Military Rites Team.
Calling is from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at McClain Funeral Home, Denver, Ind.
