MENTONE – Rickey L. Phillips, 70, of Mentone and formerly of Delphi, passed at 3:20 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, 2018, at Miller’s Merry Manor of Warsaw.
He was born Jan. 10, 1948, in Lafayette, to John and Evaleen Kauffman Phillips. He married Martha L. Bozek on March 8, 1975, in LaPorte. She survives.
He was a teacher for Tippecanoe Valley School Corp. at the high school, middle school, Akron and Mentone for many years. He also taught driver’s training. Before Valley, he taught for a year in LaPorte where he met his wife.
He graduated from Delphi High School in 1966. He then furthered his education, attaining his degree from Purdue University and his master’s from Eastern Michigan University.
He volunteered for the Mentone EMTs. He was a member of the Mentone Lions Club, the Mentone Masonic Lodge #576 and the Scottish Rite of Indianapolis. He enjoyed muzzle loading and rifle shooting, along with hunting and reading about history. He was also fond of traveling.
Survivors include his wife, Martha; daughters: Mindy Phillips, Schaumberf, Ill.; Jamie Phillips, Warsaw; and Johnna (Matt) Stone, Indianapolis; grandchildren: Jenna, Benjamin and Nathaniel; sister, Patricia Abbott, Delphi; and brother, Lloyd (Marcia) Phillips, Lafayette.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Thelma Stacy, Jean Martin, Majorie Lavendure and Paul Phillips.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Dec. 12 at King Memorial Home, Mentone, with a Masonic Service taking place at 6:30 p.m. The funeral will follow at 7 p.m. with Rev. Phil Pratt officiating.
A private family interment will take place at the Masonic Cemetery, Delphi.
