SYRACUSE – Richard Vanderveer, 85, of Syracuse, passed away July 1, 2013, in I.U. Health Goshen Hospital. He was born May 30, 1928, in Goshen, to Donald and Hazel Searfoss Vanderveer. On Oct. 7, 1951, he married Mavis Vance, who survives. He was a lifelong area resident having grown up in the Milford area. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a Purdue University graduate. He started his career after the service with Bell Aircraft Corp., New York, and retired from NIPSCO in 1985. Also surviving are three nieces: Ann (and spouse Carlos) Bennett, Germantown, Ohio; Janet (and spouse Larry) Lant, Syracuse; and Amy (and spouse Scott) Williams, Jackson, Wyo.; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Elizabeth Shaw and Margaret Purdum. There will be at memorial service at 11 a.m. Friday at Eastlund Funeral Home, 7458 E. CR 1000N, Syracuse, with Pastor Christopher Lantz officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Milford Cemetery.
