NAPPANEE – Richard Ahrens, 86, Elkhart, died peacefully May 21, 2015, at his home following a long illness. He was born Jan. 17, 1929 in Grass Lake, Mich., to Louis Joseph and Vera Maxine Spry Ahrens. On Dec. 10, 1949, at Wall Street Baptist Church, Jackson, Miss., he married Mary LaRock, who survives. He retired in 1993 from State Wide Aluminum, Elkhart. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed camping and fishing. Also surviving are his daughters: Patty (and spouse John) Gaut, Milford; Karen (and companion Mike Mollo) Hahn, Elkhart; two sons, Mike and Jeff Ahrens, both of Elkhart; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Doug Ahrens, Titusville, Fla. He was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Bailey Meister; and a sister, Marilyn Daniels. Services will be at 2 p.m. May 31 at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee.
