NORTH MANCHESTER - Richard A. Eckert, 76, of North Manchester, died at 3:30 p.m. Jan. 23, 2011, in Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne.

He was born June 26, 1934, in Warsaw, to Charles F. "Cappie" and Frances E. Krauter Eckert. On Jan. 1, 1953, he married Darlene Michael, who survives.

He was a salesman and manager at Moorman Feed Co. for 32 years. He graduated from Sidney High School in 1952. He was a great husband, father and grandfather. He spent much of his time helping family, friends and those in need. He enjoyed fishing. He was an active member and deacon of Liberty Mills Church of the Brethren.

Also surviving are two sons, Mike (and spouse Janet) Eckert, Birchwood, Wis., and Chuck Eckert, Sidney; a daughter, Pat (and spouse David) Leavell, Rochester; five sisters: Sharon (and spouse Gene) Wright, Greenwood; Sonya Hoffman, New Haven; Janet (and spouse Mike) Elwood, North Webster; Janice Bradtmiller, Fort Wayne; and Jody (and spouse Kirby) Brown, Van Wert, Ohio; grandchildren: Kim Brown (and Mark Seng), Lafayette; Shane Leavell, Louisville, Ky.; Heather Leavell, Rochester; D.J. Eckert, Warsaw; Tammy (and spouse Russ) Binkley, Silver Lake; Kyle Baird, Birchwood, Wis.; Kena Baird, Milwaukee, Wis.; and Erica (and spouse Joel) Garber, North Manchester; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Liberty Mills Church of the Brethren, 71 N. Third St., Liberty Mills, with Pastors Kelly Beutler and Erin Huiras officiating. Burial will be in South Whitley Cemetery.

Calling is from 1 to 3 and 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at McKee Mortuary, 1401 Ind. 114 W., North Manchester, and one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church.
