NAPPANEE – The Rev. Donald Lamar Mikel, of Orlando, died Jan. 14, 2013. He was born Sept. 8, 1923, in Nappanee, to Merle and Mary Mikel. His wife, Trudy, preceded him in death. He enrolled in Fort Wayne Bible College, then transferred to Bethel College, Mishawaka, to become part of the first graduating class of the new Bethel College. As a minister of the Missionary Church, he served churches in West Union; West Valley, Wash.; Twin Falls, Idaho; Denair, Calif.; and pioneered the family counseling ministry at Ventura Missionary Church, Calif. He retired in Hailey, Idaho. When he could no longer care for himself he moved home to Nappanee, then to Orlando. Surviving are a son, Russell; two daughters, Karen Berger and Sarah Hedegaard; seven grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by a son. ***** A memorial service will be at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Thompson, Lengacher and Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee.
