Tippecanoe Valley School Corp. honored two teachers for 25 years of service: Bonnie Kramer, physical education instructor at Akron and Mentone Elementary Schools, and Pam Smith, third grade, Mentone Elementary School. Each received an engraved pen presented by Superintendent Dr. Daniel V. Kramer. 25 Years Ago “Oklahoma” opened Aug. 15 at Warsaw's Wagon Wheel Theatre to a sell-out crowd. The cast makes this show a success. The music and dancing are well done, especially the dream sequence. John Wilmes and Jennifer Neuland play Curly and Laurey; Kyle Lupp and Dean Burkland are hilarious as Ado Annie and Will Parker. Kenneth Paul steals the show as the menacing Jud Fry. Gene Grillo, Ann Whitney and Tom Roland are humorous in their roles. Warsaw Christian School will open for the first day of classes Tuesday, Aug. 21. New teachers this year: Wanda Bollman, combination kindergarten/first grade class; Annette Landrum, sixth grade. 50 Years Ago Superintendent Carl Burt stated that organization day for Warsaw schools is Tuesday, Aug. 31, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., with the first full day of school Wednesday, Sept. 1. Weekly cafeteria tickets may be purchased for $1.50. School calendar: Sept. 6, Labor Day, no school; Oct. 21-22, Teacher's Assn. meetings, no school; Nov. 25 and 26, Thanksgiving vacation; Dec. 18 through Jan. 2, Christmas vacation; April 8-11, spring vacation; May 26, teachers report, no school; May 27, final day of school. Charles (Jack) Mikesell has resigned from the Milford Police Department to return to his hometown of Bourbon and join the police force there. 75 Years Ago Police Chief Raymond Neff tagged eight cars Sunday for parking diagonally in a parallel parking zone on South Indiana Street, along the United Telephone building. A number of accidents had occurred because autos parked diagonally left a narrow passageway on the street. The change reduced the number of parking spaces.
