Editor, Times-Union:
The U. S. Constitution clearly states that no president has the power to dictate election rules. Sadly, that is precisely what has happened here in Indiana and across the country this last month. This power was given to the states by the Constitution. This rule has held for 249 years; why is it not being followed this year? Instead, our state is being told by Washington, D.C. to spend taxpayer dollars unnecessarily!
Clearly, after 21 years of GOP elected officials in our statehouse, the maps are drawn to include as many republican voters as possible while nearly eliminating the opposition.
Please keep in mind, that when a special session is called to order in Indianapolis, it costs the taxpayers of Indiana $30,000 per day they are in session. This cost does not include the cost of map-making firms, law firms, etc. Indiana needs this money to support our residents' health care, education and communities.
How does this expenditure help the people of Indiana?
