Imagine, the government finally admits we're in a recession. Something the rest of us have known for a year. So now we are bailing out, to "free up credit." Now there's a novel idea: Let's give people more credit so they can go deeper into debt, if that's possible. The government is disappointed that the $165 billion they borrowed from China for our "stimulus checks" didn't do anything to help the economy. H-e-l-l-o, first you have to give the people enough money to do something with.
Now come the bailouts. First AIG, who takes the no-strings attached money and uses it to party. Then the car companies, who have their fleet of corporate jets but whose union is not willing to sacrifice their employees' wages, who by the way are averaging $80 hour with all their benefits.
I'm just an average person with no college background, but I assure you I can budget even the smallest paycheck and I've learned that there are some things in life you have to sacrifice to stay afloat. Unfortunately, big business has not learned this. Neither has our government. You can bail the car companies out until hell freezes over but who's going to buy their vehicles?
If you ask me, our elected officials have their head in the sand (or elsewhere) with no foresight whatsoever. Now Mitch is whining because his toll road lease isn't making as much money as he planned and the lower fuel prices aren't generating as much tax so his "major move projects get blindsided." Well waaa. Wake up, stupid. These are things you needed to anticipate.
Why not bail out the taxpayers? Spread all this (borrowed) wealth to each and every taxpayer who will turn around and spend it by paying their mortgages, buying new vehicles and other big ticket items. Not to mention eating out, helping restaurants and being able to actually buy items like a steak at the grocery store or medicine that they haven't been able to afford.
For a country who is so far in debt we should stop giving away so much money that we don't have such as: $798 million to Pakistan for security efforts and infrastructure or $1.7 billion to Egypt, of which $74 million is for healthcare. For heaven's sake. Our own people can't afford healthcare. How does $586 million to Kenya and $574 million to South Africa grab you, the majority going to fight HIV/AIDS? Why does the American taxpayer care if they have AIDS? We didn't give it to them and we're not spreading it. No amount of money or education is going to stop it, those people breed like flies and frankly the American taxpayer is sick and tired of funding all this crap elsewhere.
It's time our politicians wake up and give a break to those of us that are funding their paychecks. People can criticize Metzger all they want but if he'll lead a revolt, I'll be one of the first in line.
