Punish The Guilty

Posted
I am old because I have lived so long. I am angry because of what I read in the May 24 Times-Union. A convicted rapist and registered sex offender has struck again and killed a teenage girl.

Surely, the blood of the innocent youth being attacked by repeat and known sex offenders will cry out in the day of judgement against those who encourage and permit the known guilty ones to walk with freedom in our society.

I have concluded that many adults are a lot less than honest. We pretend that we love our kids. We set up sting operations to arrest good drivers for failure to fasten seat belts, but rapists and molesters are free to roam our streets in search of another prey. If we really love our younger generation more than our fame, fortune, or popularity, why do we allow human predators to be free to attack again and again?

Where is the justice in allowing the guilty to roam with freedom and enjoy life, while we bury the innocent? Why do we continue to lie to our kids and fail to protect them if we really love them?

Yes, I am angry. We have allowed the guilty to strike again. I say I can, but in reality I can't imagine the pain of the parents of those that have been destroyed mentally and many times physically. They have a right to be angry.

If the guilty were incarcerated, he could possibly have watched from his comfortable cell, his victim being buried. If still free to roam the streets again, he could possibly attend in person and look for his next prey.

We are taught to respect and address certain officials as "Your Honor." This is proper. But what is honorable about officials who allow the innocent to be buried and watch the guilty look for another prey? Of course, this means that we really love people.

I would like to propose that we repair our broken justice system, even if we have to recall the firing squad, rebuild the gallows, replumb the gas chamber and rewire the electric chair. Let's do it and give the guilty a choice.

Why would this be worse than lying to our youth, telling them we love them just enough to dig their graves and give them a decent burial?

Ladies and gentlemen, it is high time, it is past time that we quit allowing the known guilty to be free to strike again. Why can't we demonstrate our love for the innocent by giving them protection, rather than an honorable funeral? Why not bury the guilty instead?
