Problems On Parent Drive

Posted
Editor, Times-Union:

Speeders on Parent Drive behind Walmart need to be addressed by our police officers if they care about the elderly.

We are 55 and older, some in their 80s and 90s, some which can hardly walk. Someone is gonna get killed going to the trash dumpster if something isn’t done, or does it take a death before something is? Why in the world can’t we have curbside like we used to; is it the city or our landlord’s idea not to have it? The city plans our streets, why not pick up the trash?

I doubt if speed bumps would solve the problem – probably wouldn’t be allowed. We need an unmarked police car by the dumpster, a marked one by Lowe’s, so they can radio one another. We had a marked car before but didn’t help as the speeders slowed down.

Also would be nice if someone would take a look at side street off Parent Drive. Grown-up trees, weeds, pile of pea gravel, unused building material that have been there almost eight years. Trash pulled out of dumpster from animals. Would be nice if city would clean up or make our landlord clean up. Nothing but an eyesore. People look and just shake their heads.

Would like an entrance to our little community we can be proud of, not ashamed of.
