Editor, Times-Union:
I find it amazing that someone is trying to blame one person for the ills of the country, and failing on a level that borders with obsession, and lunacy. Are prices going up? Sure. Are things more expensive? Sure. But the level of TDS to claim that he is the only cause for everything being worse is like saying Edwin Smith is the reason the Titanic sank.
The minimum wage in 1964 was $1.25. The melt value of 5 1964 Quarters is $55.40. The wage was never the issue. The problem has been for over 100 years has been the money. The Federal Reserve — which is as federal as Federal Express controls our money. A product costing a dollar in 1913, would cost almost 34 dollars today. Our money is only worth what it is because we collectively believe it, and we made deals with oil producers mostly the Saudis to only accept Dollars for Oil. If you want to blame people for your Starbucks being more expensive, you’re going to have to go back a lot further than the current administration.
But the top is not the only place to look. Congress for the last 100 years has spent more money than is necessarily. Running up the debt to over 40 trillion dollars. The party in power is irrelevant because they’re both responsible. And one party raising the debt less than the other does not excuse either one.
The problem is Washington. We have too many politicians, and not statesmen. Statesmen vote in accordance to the Constitution. The ones that do that, are marginalized, shunned, and the Machine works to oust them. Look at what was done to Thomas Massie. His entire career was warning Americans that the debt was out of control, our government was taking more power for itself, and that wars could be started by one person alone. He stood for the Constitution and Washington spent 30 million dollars to oust him.
You are so blind by your hatred of one man for problems, but the issues will not go away with a new president, or a different party having a Congressional majority. The debt will go up, prices will go up, and the Constitution will be ignored. Your TDS is showing, but you just need a dose of reality.
